Son Of Dork, popularly abbreviated to SOD, is a British band formed by James Bourne in 2005 soon after pop band Busted disbanded. The members, coming from all over the United Kingdom are:
James Bourne - Guitar/Vocals - 22 years old - from Southend-on-Sea
Steve Rushton - Bass/Vocals - 18 years old - from Chertsey, Staines
Dave Williams - Guitar - 19 years old - from Newport, Wales
Chris Leonard - Guitar - 26 years old - from Surrey
Danny Hall - Drums - 24 years old - from Liverpool
Also, Ben Jackson, formerly from the band DudeFish, was in the original line-up for Son Of Dork but was dropped because his voice was not suited to James' and the key that he writes his songs in. It was rumoured Ben would go back to his original band DudeFish but those rumours have been scrapped and it is now cleared that Ben has more plans to start a band of his own.
Their first single was "Ticket Outta Loserville", released on 7 November 2005, followed by their debut album Welcome To Loserville on 21 November 2005.
The music is rumoured to sound like what the third Busted album would have been.
Fightstar is the new band (formerly not-so-secret "side project") of ex-Busted member Charlie Simpson. In late January 2005, Charlie Simpson left the highly successful British guitar pop trio Busted, citing his marked preference for heavier guitar rock over the music he had produced with Busted and his intention to carry on carving out a musical career, in a different genre, with his band Fightstar.
Fightstar's debut EP, "They Liked You Better When You Were Dead", was released on February 28, 2005, following a rapid promotional tour of the UK. Being an EP and containing in excess of 3 tracks (it in fact contained 6 tracks, one more than shown on the track listing, the 6th being a hidden track) it was ineligible for the singles chart in the UK - whether or not this was a conscious choice on the part of the band, since it effectively negated the possibility of their first release being judged by its placing in the singles chart (and so, almost inevitably, poorly by comparison with Simpson's former band), is a matter for debate; regardless, the release proved popular enough to warrant a reprinting on March 23, 2005.
The band's first single, "Paint Your Target" was released on June 13, 2005 in the UK, peaking at #9 in the singles chart. Their second single, "Grand Unification Part 1" was released on October 31, 2005.
The band are currently touring in promotion of their single releases. Another tour is also planned to coincide with the release of their first full length album in early 2006.
